The weekend of recuperation

25 February, 2012 Leave a comment

Well the weekend is here! Yay, I can sleep and recover from the abusive I have been taking from  students during tutoring. I marvel that some people take Physics even though they don’t seem to have any intuition…. well maybe they have some intuition but they are so lazy that it just doesn’t work for them. Well whatever. Lets not dwell on this depressing topic.

I came across some interesting clips and images this week. First up is the blog by Tsuneaki Hiramatsu. He has taken a time-lapse images of the native fireflies in Okayama City in the Okayama Prefecture. These images are stunning. They seem like an artist painted some squiggles on an image of the city.

Ahhh what a breathtaking image. Its like the fiery embers flying around from a raging fire!

I also came across a time-lapse video taken by Luc Bergeron called Welcome to Earth timelapse

I can’t seem to find a source for the video on YouTube so you just have to visit the link to Whutdat. Awesome hey? I just love videos that play with the rate at which that time flows on the film. It’s really spectacular. Anyway I feel like sleeping now. Its been a long hard day and I want to get some good sleep over the weekend so that I am all “witty and appealing” on Monday for my chat! Hey you can’t blame a guy for trying! :) I leave you with clip that me even more nervous when I was on campus today. It’s a stereotype but, knowing that doesn’t help at all!

Sleep well.

And here we are again.

Hey, its been a while since my last post. Life has been busy since the start of the new year. hmm ok wait where do I start?

hmm lets see. I spent Christmas and New Years at my families place. It was incredibly hot and it didn’t help that the sunlight reflected off the sea water and strikes onto my curtains at~o5:00 in the morning. Well there are some benefits of living by the beach. It’s always a great time to swim! ^____^ I ate a lot of good home cooked meals and my family did spoil me…. hehehehe shhh…. I gained a bit of mass. :( Oh well it was good times, time to start going to the gym again.

As for physics, I attended a summer school on Quantum Biology in mid January. The school was ok, but interacting with the speakers after the school as awesome. I met some interesting people from a wide range disciplines at the school. Its was quite surprising to see such a diverse group of people sitting in a seminar room and arguing about what constitutes a quantum biological system. Well anyway its was a great experience. I also met some other High energy field theorists. They were really cool. heheheh just thinking about my conversations with them makes me smile. ^____^ These share my hopes and fears about entering academia and making the transition from cheap worker bee (AKA Phd physics student) to temporary guard bee (AKA post-doc). hmm well lets face it, Physics requires time and dedication and sacrificing social life to wade through those tombs on Field theory and its application to model building, Well we had a small “Physics anonymous” session and confessed our fears about the job market for theoretical physicists….. no, lets not go there. I shall get depressed and emotional that theoretical physicists are not appreciated.

I made some progress on my Phd project over this vac. I completed the calculations for the tree level scattering of pion-pion scattering via mediation of the rho and higgs bosons. Things look interesting. On comparing the scattering lengths from the model I was able to derive some consistency requirements for the theory. hmm maybe I can play with these conditions and use them to eliminate some of the unknown couplings. Well now that campus has started again, I am being swamped by tutoring and marking of weekly problem sets. Just last week I caught myself thinking about quitting my full-time Phd and registering as a part-time student so that I could get more project work done….alas this was a bad idea so I just have to soldier on. Ahh such is the life of a Physics postgrad student.

Well now not all is bad, I met a really pretty chinese girl on campus! She’s sooooo pretty that I couldn’t take my eyes of her. ahhh… well this time I shall man up and speak to her. Hopefully all will go well, dammit just thinking about her makes me nervous. Its been a long time since I have felt  desire to know whats going on in a womans head! Maybe this time will be different. She’s soo sweet, I just want to wrap her up and put her into my pocket. hehehe its sounds weird now that I typed that, but if you saw her too….. well maybe you wouldn’t be able to hold back!!! I spent the past 3 days thinking about what to say to her and its very hard. I think I’m maybe socially retarded! :) hehehehe well I think I have a good plan. All the “more experienced” people who I talked to told me to be sincere and witty! Ahhh being witty when my internal systems are on the verge of melt down due to nervousness is quite hard. Well there’s no way to progress other than speaking to her. I wonder what criteria women use to gauge men who are attracted to them? Well that’s an important question and I’m sure that I am not the only one who has pondered about its solution in the course of history. See, I already feel like I am slipping back in to analysis mode. Ok enough of this, I shall just man up and talk to her and go with the flow.

I should go and sleep now. It late and I have to tutor later today…. but now I cannot sleep since I have started to think about her. Okay well, whatever, time for bed.

hmm oh yeah before I go, I just watched “My Tutor Friend” It’s good, and has a sweet story. Moral of the movie: persevere and get the girl in the end! I recommend you watch it too.A quick peek at it

I was randomly browsing YouTube a week ago and discovered a great cover for Secrets – OneRepublic(cover by Tiffany Alvord & ThePianoGuys)

There’s new Skyrim cover out by Jason Yang, I think the Jason Yang cover is better than the original game version. He is such a talented guy. Listening to him playing the violin tempts me to start attending some music classes.

Check out his Game of Thrones cover too.

A new track by Tune of Soul has been released. It called Moon, Sun and Universe

Its really cool chilling music, well it has been suggested as good music to play in the background when writing code!

Okay with that I shall call it a night. Sleep well my fellow netizens.
